About Us

  Judicial Commissioner Kevin Reed is a magistrate of the General Sessions Criminal Court of Shelby County, Tennessee.  As a part of his duties, he presides over protective order hearings in domestic abuse cases. 

In 2009 he started working with community activists to find more effective ways to fight domestic violence.  He researched and studied domestic violence trends in Shelby County and eventually wrote a book on the subject, Focus On Offenders: The Key To Eliminating Domestic Violence, in which he offered his ideas on how to reduce domestic violence. His articles on reducing domestic violence have appeared in The Daily News, The Commercial Appeal, and the Washington Post.

He currently serves on the board of directors of the Memphis and Shelby County Domestic and Sexual Violence Council and on the advisory board for YWCA domestic violence shelter. He is a frequent speaker on domestic violence issues and specifically advocates for more men to take a stand against domestic

Kamilla Barton is the founder of STEPS – Successful Transitions Empowering Permanent Safety. STEPS was founded with hope, empowerment, and internal safety in mind. On average, a woman will leave an abusive relationship seven times before she leaves for good.

Many survivors return because they feel alone and hopeless. The transition to survivorship can be very challenging when you feel alone.

We understand and are eager to provide individualized advocacy and endless support during those transitions. We are committed to being there every step of the way.
